H is also for Holidays!!! We are a week into Summer break and feeling very ready for a break of our own. My mum has arrived and spoilt the kids thoroughly with amazing and exhausting outings to Kidzania and Ski Dubai to meet the Penguins while we are at work….
A is for Artichoke
I made this recipe almost 2 months ago, and I am glad to be sharing it after a difficult time. It has been just over a month since my wonderful dad passed away. There is nothing that can prepare you for such loss and sadness and in time things should feel a little bit better. There are so many things I am grateful for, most notably having the support from my family and friends to be able to travel between Dubai and Sydney frequently during the past months to spend time with dad. My family and I have plenty to look forward to this year and dad will never be far from our minds. Dad really enjoyed reading my blog and we talked a lot about possible recipes and ideas. I will miss his comments….
Fish Cakes
After 5 weeks of being back in the work force, my freezer of frozen meals is dwindling. As I am very fortunate to have Thursdays off work, I was able to get groceries and general household admin sorted. Because the traffic has increased tenfold (or so it feels) since summer holidays ended, I am reluctant to spend any more time than is necessary in the car.
So everyone had to stay at home for the afternoon. It was lovely pottering and for the first time since I can remember we were able to spend some quality time outside paying in the garden.
I had a bit of pressure building that a blog was well overdue and decided on these little fish cakes (I’m also blaming my broken lens – sorry for dodgy pics). Essentially they are a simple fish pie recipe just all mixed up into little patties, and fried. The recipe is embarrassingly simple (I surprised myself at the restraint in use of ingredients!)
but oh so tasty, especially sprinkled with a little crunchy sea salt….
Back to School
We have had 10 weeks of summer holidays and I think everyone involved agrees it’s been long enough. Kids need to see their friends again and go to school to learn a few things and parents need to also see their friends again and to get back into the routine of normal life! Most schools here in Dubai start the new schooling year at some stage this week.
Everyone is back from their summer escapes. The traffic is heavy again, the barber had a queue of boys as I stood in line with my shaggy haired son, they churned them in and out. We picked up uniforms this morning and his crew cut is nicely hassle free….
